What is Registered Massage Therapy (RMT)?
Registered Massage Therapy (RMT) is a regulated health profession in BC focused on the hands-on assessment and treatment of the body’s soft tissues and joints. Whether you’re managing chronic pain, recovering from an injury, preparing for or recovering from surgery, or supporting your body through pregnancy, RMT offers a clinically grounded path to feeling better.
Your RMT begins with a health history intake and physical assessment to understand what’s actually driving your symptoms. From there, treatment is tailored to your specific goals and body, drawing on deep tissue work, myofascial release, trigger point therapy, Swedish techniques, or more specialized approaches like lymphatic drainage or CranioSacral therapy depending on what you need that day.
At Refined Integrated Health, our RMTs work alongside our physiotherapists, kinesiologist, and acupuncturists, so your care can be coordinated across disciplines when it needs to be.

Adrienne takes a nervous-system-first approach, blending deep tissue, lymphatic drainage, and craniosacral work into sessions that calm the body as much as they treat it.

Gurpreet treats the body as one connected system, using fascial release and lymphatic drainage to track down what's actually causing the tension.

Annissa makes sure every patient feels heard before she even starts treatment, then works to leave them feeling genuinely better than when they walked in.

Kristina has spent six years building personalized treatment plans, drawing on deep tissue, Swedish, and trigger point therapy to meet whatever her patients need that day.
What to Expect
Step 1: We listen
Your first appointment starts with a conversation. Your RMT takes the time to understand your health history, your symptoms, and what you want to feel and do again.
Step 2: We assess
A thorough intake and physical assessment helps identify what’s contributing to your symptoms, so treatment targets the right things from the start.
Step 3: We build your plan
You’ll leave your first session with a clear sense of what was treated, why, and what to expect over your next few visits.
Step 4: We adjust as you improve
Every follow-up builds on the last. Your RMT tracks how your body responds and adapts the approach so you keep making progress, not just maintaining it.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need a referral to see an RMT in BC?
No. You can book directly without a doctor’s referral. Most extended health plans don’t require one either, but it’s worth checking your plan’s specific requirements.
Does ICBC cover massage therapy after a car accident?
Yes. ICBC covers RMT treatment for injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident in BC, with no user fees. No referral needed. Contact our South Surrey clinic and we’ll help you get started.
How is RMT different from a spa massage?
Registered Massage Therapists in BC complete a minimum of 3,000 hours of clinical training and are regulated by the College of Massage Therapists of BC (CMTBC). Treatments are health-focused, goal-oriented, and eligible for extended health benefits. Your RMT will take a full health history, do an assessment, and build a treatment plan.
What should I wear to my massage therapy appointment?
You’ll undress to your comfort level. Draping is used throughout the session so only the area being treated is exposed at any point. You’re in control the whole time.
How many sessions will I need?
It depends on your condition and goals. Acute issues can show significant improvement in one to three sessions. Chronic conditions tend to respond best to a series of treatments over a few weeks. Your RMT will give you a realistic sense of what to expect at your first visit.
Is massage therapy covered by extended health benefits?
Most Canadian extended health plans include RMT coverage. We direct bill many providers. Call us before your first appointment and we’ll help you confirm your coverage.
Is prenatal massage safe?
Yes, when performed by a trained RMT. All three of our massage therapists offer prenatal massage and are experienced with safe, supportive positioning at every stage of pregnancy.
What is CranioSacral Therapy?
CranioSacral Therapy is a gentle, light-touch treatment focused on the head, spine, and sacrum to support the nervous system and release tension throughout the body. Available exclusively with Adrienne Carriere. Especially helpful for stress, headaches, jaw tension, and chronic fatigue.
What is lymphatic drainage massage?
Lymphatic drainage uses gentle, rhythmic techniques to support the lymphatic system and reduce swelling, fluid retention, and inflammation. Available exclusively with Adrienne Carriere. Beneficial after surgery, illness, or for general wellness support.
